me when i remember the show's overall arc was about will graham's becoming but also, in tandem, hannibal's undoing ......... the untouchable, austere, inhuman person suit slowly becoming more & more undone & mortal all because of something so human as LOVE!!!! will resists his own becoming the whole way through and although hannibal's comparatively much more willing to indulge himself, we still see that he tries and tries to retreat behind his own fortresses whenever he's startled by his own compassion for will, when he tries and tries to find ways to not let this inconvenient bone-deep feeling for will rooted in his chest be so all-consuming, be so reducing ... until eventually, he gives up and accepts his fall.

the great hannibal lecter!!! finds himself at his knees in the dirty snow just for the chance that will might come to him again. the monster whittled down to only a man, after all .... i'm gnawing at my own hands wtf they make me fucking sick!!!!! will, a man who knows he's a monster and slowly accepts that ... and hannibal, a monster who discovers that he's a man .....

This is actually such a crucial part of healing from neglect and abuse and I have to add to this.

Because indeed, people who like you will not roll their eyes and sigh at the idea of accommodating your needs, they will value your voice and be upset with you about injustice done to you, not at you for "being difficult". They will be happy when you find a way to live a better life, and help you to get there. If you are struggling, someone who loves you wants to see you smile, not tell you to smile because "you have it so good".

Let me be the miserable wretch to whom the caring lead the disbelieving, that they might see the wounds and know how much of a human being's humanity three furry boys can take with them.

This video, by an ER vet, reaffirms what the therapist above is saying from the veterinary side. I rewatch it, and her video on euthanasia, whenever the grief over Sully and Alphi gets too bad.

forever obsessed with dynamics between vampires, specifically that of a maker and fledgling, as a way to explore abuse. the creation of a vampire itself can so easily be a literalization of the lasting impacts of trauma and also much more simply the ways a perpetrator might shape their victim’s very identity. the extremes of isolation in the way that the new vampire, in most narratives, must cut all ties to their mortal life, or else go through an elaborate charade to maintain the facade of humanity, while forever still being removed from it. and the sheer dependence and vulnerability of being in an entirely new state of being, wholly uncertain of what it entails, and relying on another person to define… everything.

People have written a lot of touchy-feely pieces on this subject but I thought I’d get right to the heart of the matter

This is 1000% more motivating than every preachy “real writers write every day” post on all of Tumblr.

I call this the “two cakes” rule and remind myself of it when I start comparing myself to other people.

whenever i’m giving my own work shit compared to others my husband says “two cakes”, it tends to help
